Indira Hamilton is a student in grade 11 at Crawford Bay Elementary Secondary School (CBESS). Born and raised in Riondel, BC, Indira loves art and baking. She has an online digital art business, and sells her painting, jewelry, bags, backed goods and more at local craft fairs. Indira has started a vending machine company that she is proud of. 

Indira is passionate about the poverty issue. She tries to help people when she can and thinks that seeing peoples face light up when they receive a little help has always been one of the best feelings for her. Indira wanted to become a Student Trustee to learn more about how her school and the district operate. Indira has been in an interesting position at her school in that she is the only student in grade 11. This has shaped her into being a natural leader in her school. 

Indira looks forward to attending Univeristy for business in the future and become a business owner. One of Indira’s favorite things is learning about prehistoric sea creatures. 

Lily is a  student in Grade 12 at J.V. Humphries Elementary/Secondary School (JVH). Lily was born in Coquitlam, BC and raised in Coquitlam and Kaslo, BC. Lily’s favorite hobby is volleyball. Lily is passionate about making connections with people. 

Lily wanted to become at student trustee to have the chance to work with many different people and to work on leadership skills. For Lily, leadership means helping and advocating for students at their school. 

Lily looks forward to attending University of Victoria in the biology program. Lily has 5 dogs!

Greg Klassen is a student in grade 12 at Kootenay River Secondary School (KRSS). Greg was born in Cranbrook, BC and raised in Creston, BC. Greg loves Dungeons and Dragons, video games, reading and acting. 

Greg is passionate about creating a safe, open and welcoming environment for everyone and wanted to become a Student Trustee to experience leadership in the real world as well as to advocate for the KRSS student body. For Greg, leadership mean representing students, and being a voice for the student body to ensure they are heard. 

Greg looks forward to attending University in Vancouver to pursue either a Bachelor of Arts or Business. Greg is passionate about drama hand has been in several productions at KRSS. 

Kaia is a student in Grade 12 at L.V. Rogers Secondary School. Born in Vancouver, B.C., Kaia grew up in North Vancouver before moving to Nelson, where she has lived since the age of six.

Kaia is an avid Dungeons and Dragons player, Star Wars fan and Minecraft builder. Kaia’s favorite subjects in school are creating writing and anything in the STEM fields. Kaia enjoys outdoor activities like rock climbing and hiking, and also enjoys advocacy work around accessibility and disability rights. Kaia also volunteers in the community. 

Kaia is passionate about 2SLGBTQIA+ rights, environmental justice, climate change, building a sustainable future, accessibility, housing affordability and anti-oppression. 

Kaia wanted to become a student trustee to bring marginalized voices to the forefront of awareness, to push for inclusion and equitable rights, address ableism and discrimination in policy, as well to make sure all student in the school have their voices heard and needs met. For Kaia, leadership mean stepping up when you feel it’s needed, committing to learning beyond your own experience and listening and responding to those around you, and using your time in school to promote meaningful change for those who will come next. 

Kaia looks forward to attending university and becoming a teacher to teach in middle or high school. Kaia is a black belt candidate in taekwondo and a green belt in karate. Kaia has a goal to promote access to sport and physical activity for individuals who have visual impairment. 

Mila is a student in Grade 11 at L.V. Rogers Secondary School (LVR). Born in Vancouver, BC, and raised in Vancouver and Nelson, BC, she has loves recording music and has a passion for helping to find a cure for cancer. 

Mila became inspired to become a Student Trustee after attending the Student Leadership Conference. For Mila, leadership is having trust in your peers to help guide you and having student insight into what goes on at a school and district level. Mila hopes to attend McGill University and University of Toronto, and to eventually become a criminal lawyer. One of Mila’s favorite things to do as a child was the weekly tradition of going to East is East, a Vancouver restaurant with her Mother and Grandparents. Mila is a 17-year-old student in Grade 11 at L.V. Rogers Secondary School (LVR). Born in Vancouver, BC, and raised in Vancouver and Nelson, BC, she has loves recording music and has a passion for helping to find a cure for cancer. Mischa is student in Grade 12 at Mount Sentinel Secondary. Born in Victoria, B.C., Mischa has lived in the serene community of Glade since the age of one, where the natural beauty and warmth of the area have deeply influenced their perspective on life.

A dedicated musician, Mischa has been playing the piano for many years and recently joined Corazon, a youth choir in Nelson. Their love for music has enriched their appreciation for great composers and has been a significant source of joy and expression.

Mischa is a strong advocate for women's rights, particularly regarding reproductive health and equality. They are also deeply concerned about the climate crisis, emphasizing the urgent need for action in the face of climate change.

Initially approached by their teacher, Danny Leeming, Mischa became a Student Trustee to explore the opportunity for positive change within their school and to learn more about the workings of the school district. To them, student leadership means amplifying the voices of others and being brave enough to advocate for what is right, especially for those who may feel unheard.

After high school, Mischa plans to apply for the Film for Stage and Screen program at Capilano University, with aspirations of pursuing a career in acting and filmmaking. They discovered their passion for acting through the Mount Sentinel Academy program, where they wrote and acted in a film titled “Juice.” An interesting fact about Mischa is that they know nearly every word to the Hamilton soundtrack, showcasing their love for musical storytelling.

Rebecca Metcalfe, known as Becca, is a student in Grade 11 at Mount Sentinel Secondary School. Originally from Fort McMurray, Alberta, Becca grew up in Slocan Park, British Columbia, where she has embraced an active lifestyle.

Becca is passionate about sports, participating in volleyball, soccer, cross country running, and basketball. Her enthusiasm for athletics reflects her dedication to teamwork and community engagement.

Strongly committed to equal rights and feminism, Becca aims to create a more inclusive environment in her school. She became a Student Trustee to take on a leadership role and become more involved in her school community.

To Becca, student leadership means actively participating in school activities and taking initiative in leadership roles. After high school, she aspires to pursue post-secondary education with the goal of becoming a teacher, where she can inspire and support future generations. An interesting fact about Becca is that she excels at working with young children, showcasing her natural ability to connect and nurture.
