Inclusive Education - Safe and Sound
Occupational Therapy services has been offering the Safe and Sound Protocol program to select students in the district. The Safe and Sound Protocol is evidenced-based specially filtered music designed to reset the nervous system back to a feeling of safety. It has demonstrated benefits for students who have sensory based challenges.
Also, October 6th was World Cerebral Palsy (CP) Day. Inclusive Education helped to coordinate a virtual presentation for Blewett Elementary School to celebrate individuals with CP. The presentation was hosted by the and focus on diversity, equity and inclusion. The day also included a specifically designed inclusive PE game using the STEP approach, which involves considering the Space, Task, Equipment and People.

, a free Ministry of Education and Childcare program for pre-school children from infancy to five years old, has now expanded to include South Nelson Elementary School in School District No. 8 (Kootenay Lake).
