May is one of the most active months in ������Ƶ. Indoor and outdoor learning spaces hum with activity as children review, play, learn, create and reflect under the guidance and encouragement of ������Ƶ educators, support staff, educational partners and you, their families.

Canada Votes School Participation

April has been a great month for student learning, with schools across the district participating in the federal election process through or their own mock elections designed to cultivate informed citizenship among children and youth.

Community Gratitude

Students and staff throughout the showed their appreciation and gratitude in April for longtime Shark Route bus driver Richard Zimmerman who is retiring this year.  

This past month the Nelson Professional Firefighters Charitable Society raised $2,000 - $500 each for Hume Elementary, Rosemont Elementary, South Nelson Elementary, and Wildflower Nelson to go toward feeding children and families. Many thanks to the Nelson Firefighters and community-minded people across ������Ƶ who support food equity and access so that children arrive at school each day ready to learn.  

Dancing, Drumming and Pow Wow  

The is happening at the Creston & District Community Complex on May 16. Students have had a chance to leading up to the Pow Wow. This year’s theme is “Empowering Future Generations,” and will recognize Indigenous graduates with all schools across ������Ƶ invited to participate.

May Family Engagement Session

You’re invited to participate in a virtual family engagement session on the topic of video gaming among youth. Log in on May 29 at 6 p.m. on Zoom.

Welcome to Kindergarten

Welcome to Kindergarten events have now started across ������Ƶ. has their event on May 27, is holding an event on May 22 and will hold Dig Dirt Day May 23 where children ride the bus to see big machines at work, learn about activities in their community and get a taste of the exciting school year to come. If you have a child registered for kindergarten in September 2025, be sure to contact your catchment area school to find out more about participating in Welcome to Kindergarten events.
